Resources

While Ted E. Bear Hollow provides free support groups, day camps and teen retreats for grieving families, we do NOT offer grief counseling and therapy. We are building a lending library so people can check out materials, but we do not sell books, magazines or videos related to grief.  We have a very specific mission and we hope that by focusing on one thing, we can do it very well. Because we recognize our role in the community, we also feel it is important to inform you of other agencies and service providers who are here to offer additional support in various areas and challenges that families may face. Please read below for an abbreviated listing of resources our community. For a much more comprehensive list, you can visit the United Way of the Midlands website.

Grief Counseling Services

Ted E. Bear Hollow cannot endorse or promote one therapist over another. Click here for a listing of local counselors who have worked with some of our grieving families in the past. If you are looking for individual or family therapy, we recommend that you contact the agencies to learn about their location, hours, services and payment options.

Grief Resource Materials

Since we grieve in different ways, it is important to consider other areas that may be of support as we face the changes and transitions associated with loss. Below are links to some additional sites that may be helpful.

Centering Corporation - A grief resource center in Omaha, NE that sells books, magazines and videos on all different types of grief and loss.

Omaha Public Library - Partners with Ted E. Bear Hollow to provide free "Healing Hearts Kits" that can be checked out. Each bag is filled with grief resources for children or teens/young adults.

Dougy Center - The first children's grief center in the United States, located in Portland, OR. Their website contains a lot of helpful information and even includes a site locator so you can search for children's grief centers around the world.

Jessica Kingsley Publishers - Another selection of grief and bereavement resources which can be purchased online.

Young Widows and Widowers Group

There is a new group forming for young widows and widowers in the Omaha area. The group is making arrangements to begin offering supportive meetings and social gatherings. They currently have a discussion board and conduct conference calls between members. Click on the link below to get more information on joining this new group:

Community Agencies - Service Providers

When families experience the death of someone they care about, many areas of  life can be affected. Families may lose one or both sources of income, they may have to move to another home or even another city or state. Children may have to switch schools and make new friends. Families may face challenges dealing with the many emotions that accompany grief (e.g. anger, sadness, depression, loneliness, guilt, shame) or struggle to cope with all that has happened. Parents may benefit from some helpful hints concerning parenting, boundaries, and discipline. There are many area service providers who offer programs for children, teens and adults so they can learn to deal with these issues, among others. Here are links to some of the major social service agencies serving youth in the greater Omaha metro community:

Lutheran Family Services

Jewish Family Services

Child Saving Institute

Catholic Charities

Big Brothers Big Sisters
